Founding Rector of Near East University; Dr. Suat İ. Günsel has been awarded an Honorary PhD on Educational Innovation by the Federation of Russia.
Founding Rector of NEU; Dr. Suat Günsel has been invited to the city of Izhevsk – the capital of Udmurtiya- as a guest of the Minister of National Education of Udmurtiya Republic; Aleksandr Kuznetsov.
On 21st February 2011, Dr. Suat Günsel has given a conference on “Universities are weaving- looms of Societies” to the students and lecturers of İjevsk International- East Europe University and answered their relevant questions.
At the Senate Meeting of East Europe University, which Vice Chairman of Russia State Parliament Education Commission; Viktor Shudegov and Minister of National Education of Udmurtiya Republic; Alexandr Kuznetsov have also attended, the Near East University received the International Leader Nomination-in the field of education and Dr. Suat Günsel received an Honorary PhD on Educational Innovation by the Rector of the East Europe University; Prof. Dr. Lev Gorodon.
Within the framework of the invitation, Dr. Suat Günsel and rectors from more than 50 universities in the world have attended the 59th Anniversary of Izhevsk State Technology University- this is a university which holds great importance on the creation of Russian Industry of Weapons and Space Missile Systems. At the Academic Medicine Meeting of Udmurtiya, Dr. Suat Günsel provided information on Near East University hospital to academics and both sides have reached an agreement on collaboration.
Later on, a representative office at Izhevsk has been opened by Dr. Suat Günsel and Minister of National Education of Udmurtiya Republic.

Dr. Suat İ. Günsel received a medal from the ‘legendary’ General Mikhail Kalashnikov.
Dr. Suat Günsel has visited the Museum of Weapons and conferred General Mikhail Kalashnikov- who is the designer of a weapon which received the most important patent in the 20th century. The famous designer gave information about his life and information on weapons revealed in the museum, as well as giving information on the history of Kalashnikov Avtomatı- the mother of all foot soldier’s guns and the most used gun in the world.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the designing of “Avtomat Kalashnikova 47”( or in other words AK-47), which is regarded as the good luck charm of the Soviet Red Army, Dr. Suat Günsel has been awarded a medal by the 92 year old ‘legendary’ General Mikhail Timofeyeviç Kalashnikov: On the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of AK-47- which is considered to be the good luck charm of the Soviet Armed Forces in 2nd World War, General Kalashnikov has awarded Dr. Suat Günsel a medal and a book which he has written himself. This book gives information about his life and information on the history and design of the mentioned weapon.

A protocol of collaboration has been signed between Near East University and State Medicine Academy of Izhevsk.
On 23rd February 2011, a protocol of cooperation on educational and scientific issues has been signed between Near East University and State Medicine Academy of Izhevsk.
According to the terms of the protocol, an agreement has been reached on the collaboration of the following:
- An exchange of students
- An exchange of academic staff from both universities
- Facilitation of joint international workshops and research
- Collaboration of scientific materials and information
- An exchange of academic publishing
- Organization of Scientific and international meetings
The protocol has been signed by the Founding Rector of Near East University; Dr. Suat İ. Günsel and the Rector of Izhevsk State.

Cooperation protocol signed between Near East University and the famous Sochi State Tourism University of Russia.
On 2nd October 2009, a cooperation protocol has been signed on “education, tourism and sports” between Near East University and the famous Sochi State Tourism University of Russia.
According to the terms of the protocol, an agreement has been reached on the collaboration of the following:
- Providing joint instruction and scientific research projects and the application of postgraduate programs in the fields of Tourism Hotel and Physical Education
- Facilitating cooperation on all sorts of academic issues
- Providing the exchange of instructors and students between universities
- Implementing culture and sports activities between the students of both universities
- Carrying out joint conferences, seminars and alike
- Providing the Sochi State Tourism University free entry to all electronic resources of Near East University’s Grand Library
- Interactively facilitating and developing joint instruction programs related to Physical Education
The protocol has been signed by Vice Rector of Near East University; Prof. Dr. Fahreddin Sadıkoğlu and Vice Rector of Sochi State Tourism University; Prof. Dr. Yurov Igor.
