Department of Biochemistry was established in 2007. Prof. Dr.Güldal Mehmetçik has been the chairman of the department since 2011.

Vision and Mission
The Department of Biochemistry carries out multidisciplinary researches leading innovations and contributes to science. The Department of Biochemistry is committed to provide outstanding teaching in the biochemical sciences in accredited programs and to conduct quality research of international repute.

Our Mission is to train competent high-skilled pharmacists and scientists with the knowledge, skills and values required to perform scientific research at the highest international levels, integrating cutting-edge multidisciplinary approaches. We aim to be the implementer of the latest technological developments and research results to contribute science and to improve the quality of life standard of our society as well.

Scientific Study Areas and Facilities
The Department of Biochemistry, equipped with the latest high-tech devices and instruments, offers scientific research opportunities at the research labs and student labs under the supervision of experienced and competent academic staff. Besides, the department conducts interdisciplinary and collaborative projects.

Basically, the scientific studies and researches at the department, listed under the following headings, are being discussed and evaluated on regular basis at seminars by lecturers and their assistants:

-The physical and chemical properties of drugs
-Biochemical, pharmacological and physiological effects of drugs
-Mechanisms of drug action
-Absorption-distribution-biotransformation and excretion of drugs
-The therapeutic use of drugs
-Weekly articles

Our department carries out research for rational drug use and pharmacovigilance applications relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects, particularly long term and short term side effects of medicines.

In addition, the facilities of Pharmacovigilance Centre and Drug Information Center are being carried out by our department.
